My Husband Pushed My Pregnant Body Off a Frozen Cliff for $50 Million Then a Stranger Saved Me and Revealed a 29-Year-Old Secret-nana25

Part 2 — The Man Who Had Been Searching for Me

For several seconds, I couldn’t understand what the stranger had just said.

Twenty-nine years.

The exact number of years I had been alive.

I stared at him through half-frozen eyelashes, struggling to keep my eyes open.

“Who are you?” I whispered.

The man swallowed hard.

“My name is Daniel Carter.”

The name meant nothing to me.

But the way he looked at me did.

It wasn’t the look of a stranger discovering an injured woman in the snow.

It was the look of someone who had spent years imagining this exact moment.

Another rescuer dropped to his knees beside us.

“Sir, we have to move. She’s losing body temperature, and if she’s as close to full term as she appears, this baby may not wait for us to reach the hospital.”

Daniel immediately nodded.

“Get her secured.”

A harness was wrapped around my body.

The movement sent a sharp pain through my abdomen.

I cried out.

Then my son kicked again.

Hard.

Daniel froze.

“He’s moving,” he whispered.

I nodded weakly.

“My baby…”

“We’ll save both of you.”

The helicopter lifted us through the storm.

Inside, the rescuers worked to warm me while monitoring my baby’s heartbeat.

For the first time in hours, I heard that steady rhythm.

Fast.

Irregular.

But alive.

I closed my eyes.

Michael had left me there believing I would disappear beneath the snow.

Instead, I was being carried toward a hospital with a man who claimed he had been searching for me for almost three decades.

And I needed answers.

At the Hospital

Doctors rushed me into emergency care.

Because of the fall, the cold exposure, and signs of fetal distress, they decided they couldn’t wait any longer.

“We need to deliver the baby,” the obstetrician said.

Fear shot through me.

“He’s too early.”

“Only slightly,” she replied. “And he’s fighting.”

I thought of the little kicks that had kept me awake on that frozen ledge.

My son was fighting.

So would I.

After hours that felt like days, I heard it.

A cry.

Small.

Angry.

Beautiful.

My son had arrived.

The nurse placed him briefly against my chest before taking him to the neonatal unit.

I barely had enough strength to touch his tiny hand.

“Mommy’s here,” I whispered.

Then I saw Daniel standing outside the room.

He looked through the glass at the baby.

His eyes filled with tears.

But when he looked back at me, his expression was different.

Serious.

Almost frightened.

“Emma,” he said, “there’s something you need to know.”

I was exhausted.

“What?”

He slowly walked into my room.

“Your mother wasn’t supposed to die.”

My entire body went still.

“What are you talking about?”

Daniel reached inside his coat and removed a small, weathered photograph.

He placed it on my blanket.

It showed a young woman holding a newborn baby.

The woman was my mother.

And the baby was me.

On the back of the photograph was a handwritten message.

Her name is Emma. Keep her safe. If anything happens to me, find her.

I stared at it.

“My mother wrote this?”

Daniel nodded.

“She gave you to another family when you were only a few months old.”

My heart began pounding.

“No.”

“She was running from someone.”

“From who?”

Daniel looked toward the hospital door before answering.

“Your biological father.”

I couldn’t speak.

Then he told me the truth that my entire childhood had been built to hide.

My mother had never abandoned me.

She had been trying to save me.

And Daniel?

He wasn’t simply a rescuer.

He was my mother’s younger brother.

My uncle.

The man who had spent twenty-nine years trying to find me.

Meanwhile, at Michael’s House

Michael believed everything had gone according to plan.

He returned home from the mountains without me.

Ashley was waiting for him.

“Did anyone see you?”

“No.”

“And the insurance?”

Michael poured himself a drink.

“It will take some time.”

Ashley smiled.

“Fifty million dollars isn’t exactly a small payout.”

Michael looked toward the window.

Snow covered the trees outside.

“No body means questions.”

Ashley frowned.

“You told everyone she was dead.”

“I told them she fell.”

“And if they find her?”

Michael’s expression hardened.

“They won’t.”

Neither of them noticed the black SUV parked across the street.

Inside sat two investigators.

One of them placed a photograph on the dashboard.

It showed Michael entering the national park earlier that morning.

The other investigator tapped his phone.

“We found something.”

“What?”

“The park’s emergency system recorded a distress signal during the storm.”

He zoomed in on the coordinates.

The signal had come from the exact location where Michael said Emma died.

The investigator stared at the screen.

“She wasn’t alone.”

Back at the Hospital

Daniel returned to my room that evening.

He looked more troubled than before.

“There is another reason I found you.”

“What?”

He sat beside my bed.

“Your husband isn’t the first man who tried to make you disappear.”

I stared at him.

“What does that mean?”

Daniel opened an old folder filled with documents.

Inside were newspaper clippings, photographs, financial records, and handwritten notes collected over nearly three decades.

At the center was a photograph of a man I had never seen before.

Daniel pointed to it.

“This man was responsible for what happened to your mother.”

I looked closer.

Then my heart stopped.

Because beneath the photograph was a familiar name.

Michael Carter.

My husband’s father.

I couldn’t breathe.

Daniel reached for my hand.

“Emma, your husband didn’t choose you by accident.”

The room seemed to spin.

“What are you saying?”

He looked directly into my eyes.

“Michael married you because of who you are.”

I felt every piece of my life suddenly rearrange itself.

The rushed marriage.

His obsession with my mother’s belongings.

His questions about my inheritance.

The insurance policy.

The mountain trip.

None of it had been random.

I had thought my husband wanted my money.

But the truth was far worse.

He wanted something my mother had hidden from me twenty-nine years ago.

Something worth far more than fifty million dollars.

And somewhere in my mother’s old house was the final clue.

The clue Michael had been searching for all along.
